GROUP THREE, TECHNICAL II

PLANT OPERATOR 2 (1 TICKET) - 1 POSITION (Temporary / Permanent Part-time)

Halifax Forum Community Association

The Halifax Forum Community Association has an opportunity for a Permanent Part-time Plant Operator 2 (1 Ticket). This position will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Refrigeration Plant, insuring the physical surroundings are clean, tidy and free of safety hazards. You will perform designated maintenance and operational checks of the refrigeration plant, perform duties of non ticketed operators including ice and building operation services maintenance of ice surface, building maintenance and operating heavy machinery. By working safely and cooperatively with others, you will contribute to meeting the operational objectives of the business unit and HRM. The work location is Halifax Forum, 2901 Windsor Street.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Ensure the safe and efficient operations of the facility refrigeration plant equipment.

* Perform designated maintenance and operational inspections of refrigeration equipment.

* Complete appropriate plant log sheets and the Physical Plant daily log book.

* Ensure the refrigeration plant, ammonia detection alarm systems are on in the Remote monitor mode.

* Record any machinery malfunctions, changes in operation conditions, maintenance performed on equipment or machinery in the Daily Log Book.

* Respond to any alarms and record details in the Daily Log Book.

* Ice maintenance-which includes installation, ice resurfacing and removal at end of season.

* Cleaning of entire Arena areas including washrooms, dressing rooms, etc.

* Security of equipment in the Arena and the building itself.

* General repairs to Arena and equipment.

* Other assigned duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Must hold valid NS Dept. of Labour 2nd Class Refrigeration License

* Valid NS class 5 Drivers license

* Must have 2 years arena experience

* Must have annual training and fit testing for Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, or willingness to obtain

* Experience operating a 100 ton Trade Chiller will be considered and asset

* Valid WHMIS, Emergency First Aid, CPR Accreditation or willingness to obtain

* Knowledge of and willingness to learn all required safety procedures and work practices

* Must have ability to pass a Security Clearance and Child Abuse Registry

* Must have a good attendance and work record

* Must have excellent customer service skills

* Must have ability to handle stressful situations

* Must have ability to work independently and as a member of a team

* Must have ability to work safely and report any workplace hazards

* Must have ability and skills to effectively interact with the general public and internal clients

WAGE RATE: $19.44 per hour as per Halifax Civic Workers’ Union /CUPE Local 108 Collective Agreement

HOURS OF WORK: Various shifts as per Schedule B of the CUPE collective agreement
