We are looking for a strategic and innovative communicator who can lead the development and execution of a proactive corporate communications program. In this role you will report to the VP Communications and be instrumental in building and executing a strategic global corporate communications program for MDS Nordion. Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

· Development and execution of the global external communications program for our organization

· Building effective working relationships with the executive management team and the external communications resources within the business

· Development and review of external corporate documents: Press releases, speeches, Q&A , annual report, website copy, brochures, business presentations

· Management of press release process: Execution of process, review of press releases to ensure consistency of message and use of style guide, co-ordination of timing of releases

· Vendor management

· Media relations: Development of media relations plan, development of media briefing documents, media monitoring, key contact for external media, facilitator of media interviews and training

· Issues management: Development of issues management program

· AGM management: Management and execution of AGM activity

· Ensure timely and effective implementation of integrated communications to support business priorities

· Identification of issues and trends that are of strategic importance; be the ‘go to’ person on all corporate communications; leverage all communication mediums for maximum coverage; proactively ‘pitch’ stories to media resources on a regular basis.

· Keep a current business plan for all external communications activities while being accountable for achievements and budgets as agreed within the plan.

Experience required:

· Bachelor or Masters Degree (Communication, Journalism or Public Relations preferred)

· Minimum of 10 years corporate communications, public and/or media relations’ experience, ideally with public company experience

· Knowledge of US and Canadian media, global knowledge a plus

· Highly proactive and exceptional leader

· Demonstrated experience in health science, business and/or corporate communications

· Excellent writing and strategic communications skills

· Strong relationships with business and health science media

· Demonstrated strategic approach with a strong emphasis on delivering results

· Ability to work in a deadline-oriented environment within a heavily regulated industry

· Strong time management and organizational skills; can balance a range of projects concurrently

· Strong priority setting and high commitment to excellence

· Ability to anticipate problems and opportunities and provide strategic creative solutions

· Exceptional teamwork and collaboration

· Ability to influence internal and external stakeholders

· Demonstrated people management skills

· Proven track record in delivering high quality communications material/output

· High integrity, ethics and standards
